Mount Kailash holds deep spiritual significance, and it is believed that circumambulating this sacred mountain can have a profound impact on one's spiritual journey. As you trek along the sacred path, engage in spiritual rituals, and connect with fellow pilgrims, you will have the chance to reflect, release negative energies, and embark on a profound inner transformation. Join us on this expedition of a lifetime, where the majestic Mount Kailash and its surrounding beauty will not only captivate your senses but also help cleanse your karma, leaving you with a renewed sense of purpose and inner peace.

Mount Kailash - the Stairway to Heaven is the most sacred and mysterious mountain peak of all the Himalayas. One KORA around the sacred mountain will wipe away all the sins (bad karma) of one's current lifetime.

This is a unique opportunity to prepare yourself and successfully complete a Kailash Pilgrimage with the guidance of Lama Tendar.

4 - 23 September 2023

DAY 01 (04.09.2023) 

ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU (1400m)

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be met by our representative at the airport who will transfer you to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to relax and acclimatise to the higher altitude. In the evening, there will be a briefing about the upcoming trip and an opportunity to meet your Tour Leader, guides and fellow travellers.

DAY 02 (05.09.2023) 

KATHMANDU (1400m)

After breakfast, you will visit some of the most important cultural and historical sites in Kathmandu, including the ancient Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, where you will witness the Hindu cremation ceremony, and the Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world. 

DAY 03 (06.09.2023) 

KATHMANDU (1400m)

After breakfast, we will visit Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, which is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Nepal. We will then explore Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the historic heart of Kathmandu, where we will see ancient temples, palaces and courtyards.

DAY 04 (07.09.2023) 

KATHMANDU

(1400m– 2500m)

Today we'll head to Chandragiri Hills, which is located about 12 kilometers away from Kathmandu. This hill station is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) above sea level and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, lush green forests, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

The hike at Chandragiri Hills is a moderate one and takes around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. It's a great opportunity to acclimatise to the high altitude and prepare for the journey ahead. As you hike up the hill, you can take breaks as needed and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

At the top of the hill, there are several viewpoints where you can catch breathtaking views of the Kathmandu valley and the Himalayan range. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.

After the hike, we'll return to the hotel and start preparing for the Tibetan leg of our adventure.

DAY 05 (08.09.2023) 

KATHMANDU - GYIRONG (2700m)

After breakfast, we will drive from Kathmandu to the border town of Gyirong. The most common route to Gyirong from Kathmandu is via Rasuwagadhi border. The distance between Kathmandu and Rasuwagadhi border is around 145 km and takes approximately 7-8 hours by road. From there, it is another 26 km to Gyirong, which takes about 1-2 hours, depending on the road conditions and traffic.

The drive will take you through scenic landscapes and across the friendship bridge over the Bhote Koshi River. Upon arrival, you will go through immigration formalities and meet your Tibetan guide and driver. After lunch, we will explore the town and its surroundings and take a short hike in the nearby hills for acclimatisation.

DAY 06 (09.09.2023)

GYIRONG (2700m)

Today is a much-needed rest day in Gyirong to help us acclimatise to the high altitude. Gyirong is located at an altitude of 2700m and is the gateway to Tibet.

The town of Gyirong is small and peaceful, surrounded by towering mountains and beautiful valleys. To get accustomed to the altitude, we will take a short walk around the town, exploring the narrow alleys, traditional Tibetan houses, and local markets. The walk will be slow-paced, allowing our bodies to adjust to the high altitude gradually.

Gyirong is a beautiful town with a rich history and culture. It is located on the ancient trade route between Tibet and Nepal and has been an important trading center for centuries. As we walk through the town, we will get a glimpse of the local lifestyle, traditions, and architecture.

After the walk, we will visit the nearby hot springs, which are known for their therapeutic properties. The hot springs are located about 30 minutes' drive from Gyirong and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We can soak in the warm water, relax our muscles, and rejuvenate our bodies before returning to the town.

In the evening, we can explore the local restaurants and cafes, taste some authentic Tibetan cuisine, and interact with the locals to learn more about their way of life. The rest day in Gyirong will not only help us acclimatise but also provide us with a unique opportunity to explore the culture and lifestyle of the local people.

DAY 07 (10.09.2023) 

GYIRONG - SAGA (4640m)

After breakfast, you will continue your drive through the picturesque Tibetan plateau to Saga. The distance between Gyirong and Saga is around 300 km, and it takes approximately 7-8 hours by road. The road passes through some of the most spectacular landscapes, offering stunning views of the Himalayas, vast grasslands, and deep valleys. The road conditions are generally good, but there can be sections that are rough and bumpy.

During the drive, we will cross the Brahmaputra River, one of the longest rivers in Asia, which flows from Tibet to India. We will also pass through small Tibetan villages, where we can observe the traditional way of life of the locals. The scenery along the route is simply breathtaking, with snow-capped mountains, deep gorges, and vast plateaus.

As we climb higher, we will begin to feel the effects of the altitude. It is essential to stay hydrated and take it slow to avoid altitude sickness. We will make several stops along the way to take in the stunning scenery, stretch our legs, and acclimatise to the altitude. You will reach Saga in the afternoon and check into your hotel.

DAY 08 (11.09.2023) 

SAGA (4640m)

After spending a night in Saga, we will continue to explore the town. The town of Saga is located at an altitude of 4640m and is a crucial stop on the way to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.

Today is a rest day in Saga to help us acclimatise to the high altitude. Acclimatisation is essential to avoid altitude sickness, which can be life-threatening. We will take a short walk around the town, exploring the narrow alleys, traditional Tibetan houses, and local markets. The walk will be slow-paced, allowing our bodies to adjust to the high altitude gradually.

Saga is a small town with basic facilities, but it is an essential stop on the route to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. The town is located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We can spend some time near the river, soaking in the beauty of the place and admiring the natural landscapes.

After the walk, we will visit the nearby hot springs, which are known for their therapeutic properties. The hot springs are located about 25 km from Saga and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We can soak in the warm water, relax our muscles, and rejuvenate our bodies before returning to the town.

In the evening, we can explore the local restaurants and cafes, taste some authentic Tibetan cuisine, and interact with the locals to learn more about their way of life. The rest day in Saga will not only help us acclimatise but also provide us with a unique opportunity to explore the culture and lifestyle of the local people.

Please note that staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol is essential while acclimatising to high altitudes. It is also recommended to take adequate rest and avoid strenuous activities to avoid altitude sickness.

DAY 09 (12.09.2023) 

SAGA - MANASAROVAR LAKE (4590m)

After breakfast, we will drive to the holy Lake Manasarovar, one of the most sacred sites in Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and is said to have healing properties. We will stop along the way to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. Upon arrival, we will walk around the lake and witness the stunning sunset over the mountains. We will visit a Padmasambhava Monastery and stay overnight at a guesthouse.

DAY 10 (13.09.2023) 

MANASAROVAR LAKE TO DARCHEN (4575m)

Today, you will wake up early and leave Manasarovar Lake to start your journey towards Darchen, the starting point of the Kailash Kora. The drive will take approximately 1-2 hours, during which you will have the opportunity to admire the spectacular views of the Tibetan plateau. If you're lucky, you may even spot some wildlife such as Tibetan antelopes and wild yaks. Once you arrive in Darchen, you will check into your guesthouse and have some free time to rest and prepare for the Kora. You can also explore the town and its surroundings, as there are several small shops and markets where you can buy souvenirs and supplies for the journey. Overnight stay at Darchen.

DAY 11 (14.09.2023) 

KAILASH KORA DAY 1 (5000m)

Today is the first day of the Kailash Kora, which will take you on a scenic trek from Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (4860m). The walk will take approximately 6-7 hours and will pass through beautiful valleys and canyons. You'll get your first glimpse of the magnificent Mount Kailash, which is considered sacred by several religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Along the way, you'll also pass by several small chortens (stupas) and mani walls (stones with inscriptions) that are considered sacred by the locals. Once you arrive at the guesthouse in Dirapuk Monastery, you'll have some time to rest and take in the beautiful scenery. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

DAY 12 (15.09.2023) 

KAILASH KORA DAY 2 (5000m - 5500m)

Today is the second day of the Kailash Kora, where you will climb to the North face of Kailash and perform a sacred fire puja to eliminate all the obstacles in your life. You'll also hang prayer flags, which are believed to bring good luck and health. This is a significant day for many pilgrims, as they believe that performing these rituals will help them achieve spiritual enlightenment. Overnight at the guesthouse.

DAY 13 (16.09.2023) 

KAILASH KORA DAY 3 (5000m - 5630m) 

Today is the most challenging day of the Kora, as you will cross the highest point of the trek, Dolma La Pass (5630m). You'll need to wake up early and start walking as soon as possible to avoid the strong winds that usually start later in the day. The walk will take approximately 8-10 hours, and you'll need to be in good physical condition to complete it. Along the way, you'll pass by several small lakes and glaciers and have the opportunity to take in some of the most breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Once you arrive at Zutulpuk Monastery (4790m), you'll have some time to rest and recover from the challenging walk. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

DAY 14 (17.09.2023) 

KAILASH KORA DAY 4 (5000m) – DARCHEN

Today is the final day of your Kailash Kora, and you'll walk back to Darchen, passing through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Tibet. The walk will take approximately 3-4 hours, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning scenery and reflect on your journey. After reaching Darchen, you can take some time to rest and recover from the challenging walk. Overnight at Darchen.

DAY 15 (18.09.2023) 

DARCHEN TO SAGA (4640m)

After breakfast, you will leave Darchen and head back to Saga, where you'll spend the night. The drive back to Saga will take you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Tibet, and you'll have the opportunity to revisit Lake Mansarovar and appreciate its serene atmosphere. As you continue on your journey, you'll encounter stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and the vast Tibetan plateau. You'll arrive in Saga in the evening and check into your hotel, where you'll enjoy a comfortable night's rest.

DAY 16 (19.09.2023) 

SAGA TO SHIGATSE (3800m)

Today you'll leave Saga and make your way to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. Along the way, you'll have the chance to visit some of the most significant monasteries in Tibet, including Sakya Monastery and Pelkor Chode Monastery. At Sakya Monastery, you'll be able to admire the unique architecture of the complex and explore the vast collection of ancient scriptures and artefacts housed within its walls. Pelkor Chode Monastery, on the other hand, is known for its impressive collection of murals and its famous Kumbum Stupa. You'll arrive in Shigatse in the evening and spend the night at your hotel.

DAY 17 (20.09.2023) 

SHIGATSE - LHASA (3650m)

Today you'll leave Shigatse and make your way to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. Along the way, you'll visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, which is one of the most important monasteries in Tibet and the seat of the Panchen Lama. The monastery is known for its stunning architecture and its impressive collection of Buddhist art and artefacts. After visiting Tashilhunpo Monastery, you'll continue your journey to Lhasa, where you'll check into your hotel and have some free time to explore the city. You can visit some of the city's most famous attractions, such as the Jokhang Temple or the Potala Palace, or explore the local markets and try some of the delicious Tibetan cuisine.

DAY 18 (21.09.2023) 

LHASA (3650m)

After breakfast, we will start our day by visiting the iconic Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and former residence of the Dalai Lama. We will explore its various rooms, chapels, and halls, and learn about the rich history and culture of Tibet.

Next, we will head to the Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred sites in Tibetan Buddhism. Located in the heart of Lhasa, the temple attracts pilgrims from all over Tibet who come to worship its revered Buddha statue.

After visiting the Jokhang Temple, we will take a leisurely walk around the Barkhor Street, a bustling market where you can find a wide range of traditional Tibetan handicrafts, clothing, and souvenirs. You may also want to try some of the local cuisine and explore the city's markets.

DAY 19 (22.09.2023) 

LHASA (3650m)

Today, we will continue our exploration of Lhasa by visiting the Drepung Monastery, one of the three great monasteries in Tibet. Founded in the 15th century, the monastery is famous for its stunning architecture and rich history.

In the afternoon, we will head to the Sera Monastery, known for its debating monks. Here, we will witness the fascinating spectacle of monks engaging in rigorous debates on Buddhist philosophy, a tradition that has been passed down for centuries.

After a full day of sightseeing, we will return to our hotel in Lhasa and enjoy a relaxing evening. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city on your own or simply relaxing and soaking up the unique atmosphere of Lhasa.

DAY 20 (23.09.2023) 

LHASA - DEPARTURE

Today is your last day in Tibet, and you'll leave Lhasa to catch your flight back home. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time in the morning to do some last-minute shopping or visit any other sights in the city before heading to the airport. From there, you'll board your flight and fly back to your destination, marking the end of your unforgettable journey to Tibet.
