EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK - 16 Days

The Everest Base Camp Trek is a popular adventure that takes you to the base of the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest. Located in the Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal, the trek takes you through breathtaking landscapes, including alpine forests, glaciers, and high-altitude plateaus.

The trek will begin in the town of Lukla, where you'll catch a flight from Kathmandu. From there, you'll follow a well-trodden path through the Solu-Khumbu region, home to the Sherpa people. You'll have the opportunity to visit local villages, meet the friendly Sherpa people, and learn about their culture and way of life. As you make your way towards the base camp, you'll pass through Namche Bazaar, the largest town in the region, and Tengboche, home to the Tengboche Monastery, one of the largest in the region. You'll also have the chance to visit the memorials of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

The final stretch of the trek takes you through the Khumbu Icefall, a treacherous section of the mountain where huge blocks of ice shift and crumble. From there, it's a short hike to the base camp, located at an altitude of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet).

The trek to Everest Base Camp is a physically demanding journey, but the reward is worth it. The views of the surrounding mountains, including the iconic peak of Mount Everest, are truly breathtaking and will stay with you for a lifetime.

Itinerary

DAY 1

ARRIVING KATHMANDU (1440m)

Meet, greet and then transfer to the Hotel located In the heart of Kathmandu’s tourism hub. Explore the vibrant streets of Thamel in the afternoon. Trip briefing in the evening. Overnight at the Hotel.

DAY 2

KATHMANDU – MANTHALI (474m)​

Depending upon the season's weather conditions and hotel availability we will drive to Manthali. It is about 132km and 5 hrs drive. Overnight at the Hotel.

DAY 3

FLY MANTHALI TO LUKLA - PHAKDING (2651m)

If we spend our night before Manthali then we need to drive in the early morning for about 1-2 hours and then fly for about 20 minutes to Lukla, then 3-4hrs trekking to Phakding. Overnight at Phakding.

DAY 4

PHAKDING - NAMCHE BAZAR (3483m) (5-6 hrs trek)

After Breakfast, we start trekking by crossing the Dudh Koshi river several times using suspension bridges.  We will pass through the Sherpa villages via Monjo and through Jorsalle, and then we’ll gradually ascend the valley and start a steep climb to Namche Bazaar. Halfway through the climb, you might catch a glimpse of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Lhotse.

DAY 5

ACCLIMATIZATION AT NAMCHE BAZAR (3438m)

Acclimatization is very important before progressing to a higher elevation. We will spend a day by taking a day hike to Thame, Khunde or Khumjung or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar - a Sherpa community. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 6

NAMCHE BAZAAR - TENGBOCHE (3870m) (4-5hrs trek)

From Namche, a steep 1-hour climb to Syangboche (3720m) provides excellent views of Everest and AmaDablam. From there, we descend to Punki Thanka via Khumjung, then the trail becomes steep at first and makes a gradual ascent through forests and around many stones as it follows the side of the hill up to the saddle on which Tengboche monastery sights at 3870m. This place is clearly surrounded by dwarf fires and rhododendrons and the best views can be seen from here. Kwangde (6187m), Twachhe (6542m), Everest (8848m), Nuptse (7855m), Lotse (86 (8618m), Ama Dablam (68576m) and Thamaserku (6608m) prode an inspiring panorama of Himalayan giants. We visit the largest monastery at Tengboche in Khumbu region. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 7

TENGBOCHE - DINGBOCHE (4360m) (4-5hrs trek)

It is a short step and a descent to Devuche through a forest of birches, conifers and rhododendrons. We will cross the bridge and descend to Pangboche through the forest and magnificently carved mani stones to Pangboche at 3860 meters. Then the route enters alpine meadows above the tree line to Dingboche at 4240m. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 8

ACCLIMATIZATION AT DINGBOCHE (4360m)​

Rest day for Acclimatization. There is a possibility of hiking to Chukung Valley for 3-4hrs. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 9

DINGBOCHE - LOBUCHE (4940m)​

From Dinboche, the trail ascends to a gently sloping valley and climbs steeply into the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glaciers. We cross the bridge and climb higher on the Moraine to a row of stone monuments in memory of six Sherpas (those who died in an avalanche at Loubche at 4930m). Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 10

DINGBOCHE - EVEREST BASE CAMP - GORAKSHEP (5364m)

Today’s the day! Start the hike following the Khumbu Glacier to Gorakshep. As you reach Gorakshep, have a short break and lunch. From there, the trail runs along the side of the Khumbu Glacier for a couple of hours and finally, you’ll reach Everest Base Camp. Congratulate yourself for reaching the camp and taking in the surrounding views of mountain peaks, the Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu icefalls, and returning to Gorakshep. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 11

KALA PATTHAR - PHERICHE (4288m) (8-9hrs trek)

Start your hike with a steep climb out of Gorakshep and ascend to Kala Patthar. From the top, you will see a panoramic, close-up view of Mt. Everest. Enjoy the sunrise and return to Gorakshep, where you’ll have a short rest and breakfast. Walk down to Pheriche. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 12

PHERICHE - NAMCHE BAZAAR (3440m) (6-7hrs trek)

Walk down from Pheriche, have a short climb, and then descend to Somare. Follow the Imja Valley down to Pangboche. Trek down to the Imja River and walk through rhododendron and birch forests to Debuche. From there, climb up to Tengboche and have lunch. Trek down to Phunkithanga, cross the Imja River, and climb back up to Kyangjuma. Reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight at the Trekkers Lodge.

DAY 13

NAMCHE BAZAAR - LUKLA (2800m) (5-6hrs trek)

​Take the rocky downhill trail towards Dudh Koshi River. Head to Lukla by crossing Monjo and Phadking, where you’ll see prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens. Overnight Lodge at Lukla.

DAY 14

LUKLA - MANTHALI - KATHMANDU (1440m) ​

20 minutes morning flight from Lukla to Manthali then we will drive 132km for about 5 hrs to reach Kathmandu. Overnight at the Hotel in Kathmandu.

DAY 15

KATHMANDU (1440m)

Free day on your own. Explore the vibrant colours of the city streets.  Overnight at the Hotel.

DAY 16

KATHMANDU (1440m)

Transfer to the Airport for final Departure.
